Le Tourp, maison de la Hague, Omonville la Rogue, 50440 La Hague
Natural treasures of the Vauville nature reserve, with the GONm. A vast freshwater depression situated at the heart of one of the region’s largest dune fields, the Vauville pond was shaped by the elements around 10,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age. Designated a national nature reserve since 1976, the site is home to a rich and well-adapted variety of flora and fauna, making this unique landscape one of La Hague’s natural gems. Covering an area of around 60 hectares, the reserve is home to a variety of natural habitats that vary according to environmental conditions: wind, sea spray, drought and so on are all factors that contribute to the site’s rich biodiversity. As part of the celebrations marking the reserve’s 50th anniversary, this exhibition—comprising large-format photographs and explanatory texts—offers a fascinating exploration of these different habitats and the sometimes surprising species they are home to. It also raises visitors’ awareness of the effects of climate change and the threats facing this unique yet fragile site. Outdoor exhibition.
