A free, open space where everyone can discover literature The Maison du livre is situated in Bécherel, a ‘Village du livre’ and one of Brittany’s ‘Petites cités de caractère’, halfway between Rennes and Saint-Malo. Established in 2011 by the Pays de Bécherel Community of Communes as the Maison du livre et du tourisme, it became part of Rennes Métropole in 2014. It is a cultural facility of Rennes Métropole (alongside the Ecomusée and Les Champs Libres, which includes the Musée de Bretagne and the library), whilst the tourism aspect is now managed by Destination Rennes. As a permanent space for exploring books and writing in all their forms of expression, it showcases literature as well as photography, illustration, publishing, calligraphy, comics and theatre.
