Vestiges du château d'Auriac

12490 Saint-Rome-de-Tarn

Directions

Enjoy the setting of the hamlet of Auriac and explore the remains of the castle’s ramparts and two towers.  The hamlet overlooks the River Tarn from a height of around a hundred metres, offering views of the river’s meander around the village of St Rome de Tarn. From here, you can still see the dry-stone terraces where vines and almond trees were once cultivated. Unusually, the old village had two castles, indicating the presence of two lords. These ruins form part of a discovery trail dedicated to Romanesque art: ‘Romanesque heritage along the valleys of the Muse, the Raspes du Tarn and the surrounding area’. A walking trail also takes you up from the village of St-Rome-de-Tarn to the hamlet.  Near the hamlet, enjoy a moment of tranquillity – a zafu (meditation cushion) is provided – and recharge your batteries whilst taking in this beautiful view over the valley.
