Boulevard de l'Aérium, 33740 Arès
Intended to accommodate children in poor health and from modest backgrounds, this building was constructed in 1913, on the initiative of Mrs Wallerstein. This facility, situated right by the beach, also opens out onto the harbour via a sun-drenched veranda furnished with deckchairs. The buildings were designed by the architects Charles Duval and Emmanuel Gonse. The dining room is decorated with magnificent frescoes by the painter Henri Marret. The Aérium closed its doors in 1971, having welcomed 3,000 children.
