Château d'Arcelot
2 rue de Champ Rosé, Arcelot, 21310 Arceau
Once the residence of members of parliament, the Château d’Arcelot is Burgundy’s first Neoclassical building (1761–1764). Fully furnished, the Château d’Arcelot offers visitors the chance to explore the Grand Salon, which, according to the historian Courtépée (1775), was the ‘most beautiful salon known in Burgundy’. You can also visit a dozen rooms, including the ‘Tsar’s Chamber’ with its 18th-century furniture, as well as the 45-hectare landscaped park (featuring a pond, a Chinese pavilion, animals, etc.), laid out around 1800. Today, this park is one of the few remaining landscape gardens designed by the architect Jean-Marie Morel, who was notably involved in the design of the park at the Château de la Malmaison, the residence of Napoleon I’s wife.
