Rue de la Chapelle, 40130 Capbreton
Originally, the beach chapel was a private chapel belonging to the neighbouring villa, the ‘Château d’Arbrun’. In 1921, it was owned by the Institut d’Aquitaine in Bordeaux, before being purchased by the parish priest, Elie Gabarra, in 1925. The interior frescoes are by Marcel-Louis Dillais. The one at the back dates from 1947 and depicts ‘The Festival of the Sea’; the one in the chancel, ‘The Return of the Boats’, featuring the trawler ‘Porte du Large’, dates from 1952. The bell was installed on 3 August 1952. The exterior fresco, ‘The Annunciation to Mary’, dates from 2003 and was painted by the young pupils of the artist Christian de Laubadère.
