Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs

19800 Corrèze

Directions

The Chapel of the White Penitents in Corrèze was built in the 18th century, near an old chapel that had fallen into ruin. In 1730, the Bishop of Tulle authorised the brotherhood to establish itself in the village and to build a new chapel, the construction of which began in 1758. Secularised during the Revolution in 1793 and converted into a club, the chapel was returned to the Penitents in 1819. This date also marks the decoration of the chancel with beautiful decorative paintings. The west façade is dominated by a hexagonal bell tower topped with a six-sided roof. A building well worth visiting for its architecture and unique history.
