CallWebsiteDirections

Situated on the Wine Route and nestled at the foot of the Vosges mountains, close to their highest peak, Soultz was first mentioned in 667. Its name probably derives from ‘Sulza’, which is thought to refer to the existence of a saltwater spring. Thanks to wine-growing, the town enjoyed a prosperous Renaissance in the 16th and 17th centuries, as can still be seen in the beautiful houses with their stair turrets, oriel windows and buttresses. This very pleasant town, with a population of 7,311, charms and surprises its visitors as they wander through its narrow streets and along the historic trail through Old Soultz. Here, one is happy to hear tales of the illustrious figures who once lived in this town, such as Georges Heckeren d’Anthès, whose château can still be admired and who faced the Russian poet Pushkin in a fatal duel. This welcoming town, offering accommodation, restaurants and shops, is the ideal base from which to explore the Florival Valley and its treasures.
