An exceptional 12th-century engineering feat stretching 1.5 km, partly carved into the rock and partly built using corbelling techniques by the Cistercian monks of the abbey, the Monks’ Canal runs along the rock face from its intake on the Coyroux stream. It supplied fishponds and mills and provided running water to the monastery. There are several walking options: a return walk along the canal (1½ hours) or circular walks (3 hours). Walks start near the wash house on the Route de Tulle. Please note: pets, bicycles, motorbikes and pushchairs are not permitted on the site. The site is not accessible to people with reduced mobility. Walking shoes are recommended. Guided tours in July and August.
