Le Moulin de Bona
6 Chemin du Moulin, 58330 Bona
A miller’s cottage, fully renovated in keeping with the building’s original character, and partly constructed using natural, eco-friendly materials (hemp, lime, wood, Puisaye ochre, etc.). The owner, who is passionate about mills and nature, will be delighted to share her interests with you if you’d like. You’ll also be welcomed by an adorable, very well-trained 5-year-old sheepdog. You can visit the old watermill, which ceased operation in 1954 when the last miller, Jean Thomas, fell ill. This small mill (which dates back to the Middle Ages and is marked on the Cassini Map) has been fortunate enough to retain all its mechanisms, its bucket wheel, which, as the saying goes, was fed ‘from above’ via the water channel that still runs beneath the path, its millstream and the old water reservoir… You’ll discover it in its original state and can admire its gears, its millstones, its sifting room… and even the tools used to operate and maintain the mill, testaments to the miller’s craftsmanship. The holiday cottage is attached to the owner’s house, situated in a peaceful spot at the end of the lane, and has a private car park. You’ll enjoy a lovely view over the meadows and the forest, and be lulled by the sound of the small waterfall and birdsong. It’s an ideal spot to recharge your batteries, with a walking trail passing right by the gîte. On the south-facing terrace, above the mill wheel, deckchairs await you for a spot of sunbathing. If you prefer the cool air, you can settle into the armchairs facing the river. A barbecue is available for your use. On the raised ground floor, there is a living area with a dining space, kitchen and wood-burning stove. The living area overlooks the river, the waterfall, the meadows and the forest. Upstairs, a cosy lounge awaits you (sleeping space for one extra person on the sofa bed) on the mezzanine level, leading off to two bedrooms: one with a 160x200 bed (which can be separated into two 80x200 beds); the other with one 180x200 bed (which can be separated into two 90x200 beds) plus one 90x190 bed. The bedding is new and of high quality (made in Autun). Each bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom (with a large shower) and toilet. With a strong commitment to environmental conservation, this holiday cottage is situated within a ‘Natura 2000’ area and forms part of the ‘Refuges LPO’ network; it also holds the ‘Gîte PANDA’ (WWF) certification. This accommodation is not suitable for business stays. Options and charges: All-inclusive package: bed linen with beds made on arrival included, towels provided, kitchen tea towels provided, end-of-stay cleaning included (provided the gîte is left in a reasonable condition), electric heating and electricity included (subject to reasonable consumption). Firewood for the stove is included. Free tour of the mill on request, as well as information about the mill’s eco-friendly renovation. Various ‘nature’ activities offered by the owner: Pressing flowers: €5 per person (picking on site with instructions and pressing – duration approx. 1 hour 30 minutes) Making a dried flower picture: €15 per person (selection of dried plants from the presses and creation of a picture to take home – duration approx. 1 hour 30 minutes)
