The Roussanne grape is a very old variety, cultivated in the Jurançon vineyards since the 16th century. The fragility of the fruit and the vagaries of the weather nearly led to its demise. In 2004, thanks to the perseverance of Marie-José Casaubon, a grower in Cuqueron, a group of passionate growers came together to form the cooperative ‘Les Vergers du Pays de Monein’ with the aim of reviving production. Today, the co-operative comprises eight growers with around fifteen hectares of orchards in and around Monein. During the summer months, it offers peaches freshly picked from the orchards, sold by the tray, as well as peach nectars.
