Le Lac au Duc

56800 Ploërmel

CallWebsiteDirections

At 5.5 km long and between 500 and 900 m wide, Lac au Duc is a sizeable lake. Fed by the River Yvel, it boasts a variety of natural habitats and wetlands that are home to numerous species. Attentive observers can spot wildlife ranging from insects to otters, and from frogs to roe deer. The waters are a delight for anglers targeting whitefish and predatory fish. According to experts who regularly organise fishing competitions, it is the best coarse fishing spot in France. A 21 kg carp is among the record catches. In these magical waters, other specimens of similar size are said to cross paths with the mythical ‘vouivre’ – a marsh monster subdued by the monk Armel, which has inspired numerous tales. A remarkable natural area, Lac au Duc offers a wide range of activities around its shores: golf, hiking, water sports, fishing, cycling or rollerblading along the greenway, and exploring the hydrangea trail.
