Eglise Saint André de Bouau

40310 Parleboscq

Directions

Situated to the south-east of the village of Parleboscq, on the border between the Landes and the Gers, the church at Bouau was built in the 14th century from brick, with the exception of the buttresses. It is dedicated to Saint Andrew, who is depicted on a keystone. Its defensive appearance can be explained by the various conflicts that ravaged the region over several centuries. The 16th-century bell tower, with a square base, is curiously topped by a final seven-sided storey. On the wide façade, a Flamboyant-style portal is vaulted with a basket-handle arch. It is surmounted by a multi-lobed rose window. Two picturesque little 19th-century buildings, constructed of half-timbering and cob, flank the cemetery gate. The church is currently closed to the public due to its fragile condition.
