“Yongoyély” show – Circus Baobab, circus arts and dance A sensational circus-style immersion into Guinean life With Yongoyély (meaning ‘the exciser’ in the Soussou dialect), director Yann Ecauvre and Kerfalla Camara, director of the legendary Circus Baobab, continue their artistic collaboration, following on from Yé! in 2023. Their new production pays tribute to female strength, the central role of women and their resilience in the face of life’s trials. It plunges us into the frenzy of the streets of Conakry, where we discover the daily lives of a handful of women and men who, amidst dust and breeze blocks, music and song, shouts and dance, tell us – through every circus discipline – aerial work, acrobatics on astonishing apparatus, logs and small tree trunks transformed into Chinese poles, Russian bars or tightrope ropes…— their hope for a better life. Thus, the women are liberated, through the strength of their commitment, from the obligations and mutilations imposed upon them by a society in the throes of upheaval. Suitable for ages 8 and over 8.30 pm at the Coutances Municipal Theatre. Booking essential.
