Sentier d'interprétation "Histoire de Monein"

64360 Monein

CallWebsiteDirections

This pleasant walk will take you on a journey of discovery through the history of Monein. From Les Casterasses, you can imagine the view that the Viscounts of Béarn would have enjoyed from the top of their keep.

Monein is characterised by its dual character, comprising a historic centre and rural neighbourhoods stretching across 8,000 hectares. The village centre of Monein is home to the largest Gothic church in Béarn, the Church of Saint-Girons. It is impressive for the size of its bell tower and unique for its asymmetrical roof structure, shaped like an inverted double ship’s hull. In the past, Jurançon wine was known as Monein wine. One could therefore almost say that Monein is the heartland of the Jurançon vineyards. In fact, 60 per cent of Jurançon’s production takes place in Monein. It is therefore the ideal place to meet the winegrowers. The interpretive trail, marked by five information panels, will take you on a journey through the history of Monein. From Les Casterasses, you can imagine the view that the Viscounts of Béarn would have taken in from the top of their keep.
