Association pour la Protection de la Memoire et de l'Avenir du Site de Saint-Germain

Purpose of the association

Preserving the spirit of ‘Saint Germain’ that is to say, actively protecting the spiritual legacy bequeathed to us by this Benedictine monk who, in the 11th century, chose to retreat to a cave where he lived in a spirit of solitude, prayer, contemplation and silence; to honour the memory of the rural community of 1835, and thus to respect the history of this place, which was originally a hermitage and, on 13 April 1835, became an integral part of rural life on the Saint-Germain plateau, the heart of the new parish established at the farmers’ request, its status as a parish confirmed by the 1974 Act; the elders who have passed this heritage down to us – without them, the church, the bell tower and the cemetery would not exist; to safeguard the intrinsic character of the Saint-Germain site and the heritage bequeathed by the church’s founders; to safeguard the future of this place by participating in any discussions concerning it, to act as a driving force for positive change and, if necessary, to oppose anything that might distort its character
